Cardiac Inpatient Care
We believe that individuals who require intervention for cardiovascular diseases have the inherent right to family centered primary care. Based upon the patient’s clinical condition and needs as an individual, care is directed toward prevention of complications, treatment of the current condition and restoration to optimum levels of health. Our patients are treated with respect and dignity.
The high quality of professional care we provide for our patients requires a well-equipped unit with adequate staff who are competent, dedicated, enthusiastic and sensitive. Nurses receive specialized training for post open heart care and hemodynamics (blood movement). Our standard staffing level in the CCU assigns one nurse to each patient.
The CCU is a ten-bed unit of private rooms which receives the following types of patients:
- Cardiac related diagnosis: Myocardial Infarction (heart attack), Congestive Heart Failure, Dysrhythmias (irregular heart beat)
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
- Valve replacements and repair
- Patients requiring IABP therapy (Intra-aortic balloon pump)
- Aneurysms- thoracic/ventricular
- Post-coronary procedures
- Combined procedures
After the patient’s condition no longer requires the intensity of care provided by the CCU, patients are transferred to one of the Step Down Units for further monitoring and treatment.
The Cardiac Care Unit is located on the 3rd floor of the South Tower of Mon General Hospital. Phone: 304-598-1416
