Mon General’s Prototype Patient Rooms

When Mon General’s $92 million expansion and renovation project is completed in 2009, all patient rooms at the hospital will be private. Three demonstration private rooms, to show what the new rooms will look like, were recently unveiled on the 4th and 6th floors of the hospital and are now being used by patients.

Each private room consists of approximately 210 square feet with an adjoining 50 square foot private bathroom. The patient rooms include an eight-foot headwall behind the bed, which houses the nurse call button, emergency and normal power outlets, medical gases, light switches, and the telephone jack. The rooms also have a patient wardrobe in which the patient can hang clothing and store other personal items, a small desk-like writing area, shelves for displaying cards, and a wall mounted flat screen television. Patients and visitors also have access to high-speed wireless internet service.

The bathrooms have a full size, 34 by 60 inch, walk-in shower and have plenty of floor space between the commode, sink, and shower.

The private rooms ensure that patient centered care is provided in a confidential, comfortable setting. Private rooms have space for family members to spend the night comfortably, if necessary, increasing family participation in the patient’s care.
